Almost no English learner in China is a stranger to dictation, which comprises one of the important classroom dynamics during the process of their English language acquisition. With the inclusion of dictation in the nationwide testing system TEM4 (Test for English Majors, Grade 4 ), dictation is emphasized more than ever before in the English classroom. Nevertheless, many English teachers have not realized that our so-called dictation is just dictation for dictation's sake: dictation merely serves the end, not the means, for the students to acquire language competence. To tackle this problem, this article is intended to introduce dictation strategy as used in Australia to provide ways of exploiting dictation to its full extent.
