Within the contemporary and modern history of196years from1779to1975,Laos experienced in succession the status of foreign dependent and colony and then later was invaded by imperialists and during that period,its people were suffering enough from exploitation and oppression and living in misery.As a result,its backward economy can be traced back to historical reasons.
Though there are approximately30,000to40,000oversea Chinese in Laos,they have been able to raise funds by themselves to establish five schools of the Chinese language with better quality than the local ones.The reason for that can be easily seen from their ardent loyalty to their motherland and the Chinese nationality.
This essay tries to explore the Laotian present ethnic probl ems, their historical causes, the policies that the Laotian People’s Revolutiona ry Party adopts and measures it takes. Meanwhile, the author also elaborates the achievements as well as unsolved problems.
