The Dongzhuang-cun site in Ruicheng, Shanxi, remains by now of great significance to the study of the Banpo and Miaodigou types of the Yangshao culture. Its Yangshao remains can be divided into two periods with three stages, of which the first period corresponds roughly to the Banpo type in date, while the second belongs to the early Miaodigou type and corresponds approximately to the Shijia type in the Guanzhong region. The Banpo and Miaodigou types neither developed side by side nor had inheritance relationship with each other. The reality might have been that the Miaodigou type in its early period co-existed with the late Banpo type, i.e. the Shijia type, and later advanced westwards into the Guanzhong region, developing into the Quanhu type.
