This paper deals with a new species, Melanitis nigrimaculata Chou et Qi sp.nov., of the family Satyridae (Lepidoptera) from Fujian Province of China. The type specimen is deposited in the Entomological Laboratory, Fujian Agricultural University, China. Melanitis nigrimaculata Chou et Qi, sp.nov. This new species is allied to Melanitis zitnius Herbst, but can be easily distinguished from the latter by the black macule in heart-form on forewing, and without the yellow band and black spots at subapical zone. 闽鸠蝠蛾 Phassus minanus Yang 是近几年在中国福建省新发现的一种害虫,为害茶和柑桔、枇杷等果树,经北京农业大学杨集昆教授鉴定为一新种,并以福建省的简称“闽”(Min)为其种名.作者于1980年在福建省三明市枇杷树上首先发现,后来又在1981和1984年相继在柑桔和茶树上也发现其为害,现今已成为福建北部山地果、茶园一种颇为重要的虫害.闽鸠蝠蛾一个世代经历两年,幼虫在树干基部作环状蛀害,可致被害果茶树全株枯死.本文记述此虫发现经过、分布、寄主植物,为害习性和形态特征,文末提出了关于防治方法的讨论.
