Thermal stability of luminous YAG: Ce bulk ceramic as a remote phosphor prepared through silica-stabilizing valence of activator in air被引量:4

A prototype of YAG: Ce (Y3Al5O12) luminous bulk ceramic as a remote phosphor for white LED illumination was fabricated in air through a strategy of silica addition. With increasing the amount of silica in a specific range, the opaque sample turns to be semi-transparent. The precipitation of crystals is verified to be in pure YAG phase by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Beyond the limit of silica amount, the dominant phase of YAG crystal is found to coexist with a small amount of newly-formed Y2Si2O7, Al2O3 and the amorphous phase. The YAG crystals are with a grain size of approximately 2 mm and distribute evenly. The YAG hosts after structural modification via addition of silica result in yellow band emission of 5d→4f transition peaked around 535 nm as excited by a blue LED, owing to the self-reduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+ even in the absence of reductive atmosphere.

Color tuning of Eu-Tb co-doped borophosphate glasses for white light through valence state adjustment被引量:1

The dependence of color points of white light on the composition of borophosphate glasses co-doped with europium (Eu) and terbium (Tb) has been investigated in terms of valence change of rare earth ions. Under ultraviolet (UV) excitation, the white light is observed to be from a combination of 4f65d→4f7 band transition emission at 425 nm for Eu2+, 5D0→7FJ (J=1, 2) line-emissions at 593 nm and 611 nm for Eu3+, and 5D4→7F5 band transition emission at 545 nm for Tb3+. By varying the glass composition, the resultant emission color can be tuned efficiently. Eventually, the optimized white light with commission international de I'Eclairage (CIE) coordinate of (0.3382, 0.2763) and the correlate color temperature (CCT) at 5010 K are achieved.

Color-converted remote phosphor prototype of a multiwavelength excitable borosilicate glass for white light-emitting diodes

We report a unique red light-emitting Eu-doped borosilicate glass to convert color for warm white light-emitting diodes. This glass can be excited from 394 nm-peaked near ultraviolet light, 466 nm-peaked blue light, to 534 nm-peaked green light to emit the desired red light with an excellent transmission in the wavelength range of 400-700 nm which makes this glass suitable for color conversion without a great cost of luminous power loss. In particular, when assembling this glass for commercial white light-emitting diodes, the tested results show that the color rendering index is improved to 84 with a loss of luminous power by 12 percent at average, making this variety of glass promising for inorganic "remote-phosphor" color conversion.

Controllable precipitation and photoluminescence of efficient green-emitting crystalline phase from luminescent CaO-SiO_2 glass-ceramic system被引量:1

A new kind of glass-ceramic phosphor,which contains crystalline phases with green emissions,is explored.The glassceramic is prepared through semi-melt-quenching procedure with a nominal composition of(Ca0.99Eu0.01)3Si2O7.The greenemitting crystals are precipitated and identified to be β-Ca2SiO4:Eu2+ which is responsible for 510 nm-peaked muchbroader band emissions holding at 1550 oC for half an hour.In terms of the available light scattering theory,the appearance of opaque is discussed by closely associating with size and morphology of luminous β-Ca2SiO4 crystalline phase in glass.

Flux-adjusted phase transformation from Ca_2SiO_4 to Ca_3Si_2O_7 with Eu^(2+) activator for white light emitting diodes被引量:3

Eu2+ -activated reddish-orange-emitting Ca3Si2O7 phosphors were synthesized with the addition of NH4Cl flux.When the phosphors were synthesized in a nominal composition of (Ca0.99Eu0.01)3Si2O7 without flux addition,a Ca3Si2O7 phase responsible for reddish-orange emission was identified to coexist with an intermediate phase of a-Ca2SiO4 for green emission.With the addition of NH4Cl flux,a-Ca2SiO4 was suppressed while the pure phase Ca3Si2O7 was obtained as the flux content was 3 wt%.Through varying the amount of flux,the emission color of samples can be tuned from green to reddish-orange,corresponding to the phase transformation from a-Ca2SiO4 to Ca3Si2O7.Through optimizing the doping concentration of Eu2+ ,the optimized photoluminescence (PL) properties for reddish-orange emission can be achieved,which makes this kind of phosphor prospective in the applications of the phosphor-converted white light emitting diodes (PC-WLEDs).

Facile Synthesis of BCNO Yellow-Emitting Phosphors Applications for White LEDs by Microwave Heating

Yellow-emitting BCNO phosphors,applied for white light-emitting-diodes(LEDs),were synthesized by a facile microwave heating route at lower temperature within short duration.The prepared BCNO phosphors exhibited amorphous form and tunable yellow emission in the range of 510–550 nm under the excitation of 450-nm blue light.The effects of carbon content on the photoluminescence properties for these BCNO phosphors and their application performances in white LEDs were investigated in detail.The demonstrated microwave synthesis route is promising in preparing low-cost phosphors,and the prepared BCNO phosphor may find potential application in blue-based white LEDs.
