This article presents the principles and techniques of active optical clock, a special laser combining the laser physics of one-atom laser, bad-cavity gas laser, super-cavity stabilized laser and optical atomic clock together. As a simple example, an active optical clock based on thermal strontium atomic beam shows a quantum-limited linewidth of 0.51 Hz, which is insensitive to laser cavity-length noise, and may surpass the recorded narrowest 6.7 Hz of Hg ion optical clock and 1.5 Hz of very recent optical lattice clock. The estimated 0.1 Hz one-second instability and 0.27 Hz uncertainty are limited only by the rela- tivistic Doppler effect, and can be improved by cold atoms.

Multi-threshold second-order phase transition in laser被引量:4

We present a theory of the multi-threshold second-order phase transition,and experimentally demonstrate the multi-threshold secondorder phase transition phenomenon.With carefully selected parameters,in an external cavity diode laser system,we observe secondorder phase transition with multiple(three or four) thresholds in the measured power-current-temperature three dimensional phase diagram.Such controlled death and revival of second-order phase transition sheds new insight into the nature of ubiquitous secondorder phase transition.Our theory and experiment show that the single threshold second-order phase transition is only a special case of the more general multi-threshold second-order phase transition,which is an even richer phenomenon.

A 657-nm narrow bandwidth interference filter-stabilized diode laser

We present a 657-nm external cavity diode laser (ECDL) system,where the output frequency is stabilized by a narrow-band high transmission interference filter.This novel diode laser system emits laser with an instantaneous linewidth of 7 kHz and a broadened linewidth of 432 kHz.

Global evolution of an analyzer angle on the Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter at 1529 nm

In order to realize laser frequency stabilization,the global evolution of an analyzer angle on the electrodeless-discharge-vaporlamp-based excited-state Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter(LESFADOF)with a single transmission peak operating on the Rb1529 nm(5P3/2-4D5/2)is presented.We find that the transmission of the line center peak at 80°arrives at 14%in a 3 cm length lamp contained natural Rb mixed with 2 torr Xe buffer gas operating at 250°C with 176 MHz radio frequency.When it is used to realize laser frequency stabilization,the LESFADOF at near 80°is appropriate.Whether a single transmission peak or double transmission peaks depend on the rf voltage when two polarizers are crossed.

主动光钟的研究进展被引量:1

主动光钟是一种在腔反馈条件下以工作于原子跃迁谱线的光频受激辐射直接作为量子频率标准的新型原子光钟,有望将传统光钟稳定度提高2个量级,从而推动光钟的技术进步,应用更趋广泛.本文简述了光钟的发展历程及目前的关键技术瓶颈;介绍了主动光钟的基本原理;讨论了主动光钟的几种实验方案,包括坏腔二能级、三能级激光型主动光钟、四能级主动光钟和法拉第主动光钟等方案,详细分析了这些方案的实验原理和结果;除了介绍基于铯原子气室的法拉第原子滤光器实现主动光钟的实验研究结果,同时还简单描述了用魔术晶格囚禁冷锶原子实现基于689 nm超窄法拉第原子滤光器的主动光钟方案,以及工作于好腔条件下的法拉第光钟.最后,将这几种方案进行了综合分析与对比,展望了主动光钟进一步发展的前景和潜在应用.

Active optical clock,a new conception of atomic clock,has been proposed recently.In this work,we propose a scheme of active optical clock based on four-level quantum system.The final accuracy and stability of two-level quantum system are limited by second-order Doppler shift of thermal atomic beam.To three-level quantum system,they are mainly limited by light shift of pumping laser field.These limitations can be avoided effectively by applying the scheme proposed here.Rubidium atom four-level quantum system,as a typical example,is discussed.The population inversion between 6S 1/2 and 5P 3/2 states can be built up at a time scale of 10-6 s.With the mechanism of active optical clock,in which the cavity mode linewidth is much wider than that of the laser gain profile,it can output a laser with quantum-limited linewidth narrower than 1 Hz in theory.An experimental configuration is designed to realize this active optical clock.

Distribution of populations in excited states of electrodeless discharge lamp of Rb atoms被引量:1

The intensity of fluorescence spectral lines of Rb atoms in the region of 350-1110nm is measured in eletrodeless discharge lamp. The population ratio between the excited states is calculated according to the spontaneous transition probabilities with rate equations. At the same time, the population density of energy level is also obtained. The results provide the potential applications of electrodeless discharge lamp in atomic filter and optical frequency reference at higher excited states without a pumping laser.

单透射峰Faraday反常色散原子滤光器中检偏器角度的影响

本文研究了工作在Rb原子D2线(5S1/2→5P3/2)780nm单透射峰的法拉第反常色散原子滤光器(Faraday Anomalous Dispersion Optical Filter,FADOF)中检偏器角度变化对单透射峰的影响,在室温时,发现检偏器角度每增加1°,峰值透射率平均增加0.21%,从相对值来说,从90°-89°时,等效透射率增加一倍.同时测量了检偏器角度变化对传统多透射峰FADOF的影响,以及铷泡温度、长度变化对透射率的影响.
