After the preparation of 1,4-bis(4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)benzene(bdib), a nitrogen heterocycle with potential coordination manners of both cis-and trans-configuration forms, three complexes, including cis-[Cu2(bdib)2(μ-OCH3)2]Cl2·2MeOH(1), trans-[Cu(bdib)(AcO)2]n(2), and cis-[Ag2(bdib)2](NO3)2·2H2O(3), were successfully self-assembled. Complexes 1 and 2 crystallized in the monoclinic system with P21/n space group and complex 3 in the triclinic system with Pī space group.

Both a persulfide crystal of L-L(1), the oxidative coupling product of 1-phenyl-1H-tetrazole-5-thiol(HL), and a neutral copper(I) complex of Cu6L6(2) were self-assembled and their crystal architectures were characterized by CCD method. HL was converted into the persulfide L-L(1) over a metalloporphyrin catalyst with enzymatic characters under ambient conditions. Whlie in the crystal architecture of Cu6L6(2), 6 copper(I) ions were ligated by 6L-anions to construct a Cu6 ring, which just resembled the chair configuration of cyclohexane. Notably, both compounds 1 and 2 exhibit strong photoluminescence in solid state.

Three crystal architectures, including one organic compound of benzoyl peroxide(1) and two clusters of tri-iron(Ⅲ) and bi-cupper(Ⅱ) with benzoic ligands(2 and 3), were self-assembled by an in situ redox way of benzoyl peroxide oxidants reacting with Mo, Fe and Cu powders, respectively. X-ray crystallographic results show that both the asymmetry tri-iron(Ⅲ) cluster and the benzoylperoxide crystal architecture(2 and 1) with complicated 3D networks were constructed by intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions. Contrarily, the symmetrical bi-copper(Ⅱ) cluster crystal architecture(3), only with π-π stacking between paralleled phenyl groups and without any intermole-cular hydrogen-bonding interactions, only presented an 1D zigzag chain along the a-axis.
