Brighton Rock was a millstone in Greene's career,which deals overtly with the questions of sin,damnation,and salvation.Pinkie is the hero of the novel,who is complicated and paradoxical.There are many examples showing that Pinkie is literally sinful,but he doesn't deserve too much criticism for he himself is a miserable victim in this decay-saturated world.
